Car safety and insurance

BASIC SAFETY

I wonder how many of you stop and think about travel-safety before getting into your vehicles – even if it’s only to go to the local  store for some chips? It only takes a second for something unexpected to happen. Be aware of  possible danger and prepare yourself with the help of these safety tips.

Before entering your vehicle:  Always perform a walk-around check before getting into your car. Even if it’s been “˜safely’ stored in your garage for the night, check it anyways. Check for any tampering on the outside of your vehicle (flat tires, missing tires, gas cap opened, crack in a window, trunk is secure, hood is secure, etc.). Be sure to look in the windows of the front and back seat before getting in. People can and sometimes will try to hide in your vehicle (if you leave it unlocked by accident) and surprise you once you’re driving. It happens all the time and your options are slim once you’re in this situation. Also, always have your key in your hand, ready to unlock your door. If you have to look for your key in your bag or briefcase, make sure you do so before approaching your car.

Try to plan your route before you leave: It’s important to know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there. Avoid dark streets and alleyways. Try to stay on the main streets if possible. Don’t  drive the same route – try to change your driving routine every once in a while. Habitual driving patterns make it easy to become prey to a would-be assailant. It’s also a good idea to let another person  know where you are going, especially if you are traveling alone, and/or on a long distance trip.

CAR INSURANCE

Another very important aspect is car insurance, you never know what could happen during one of your outings  and its better to be prepared than to be sorry,  a large percentage of people didn’t switch insurance in 2010 (aprox 69%) thus missing out on better deals, and although you may be satisfied with your current plan you owe it to yourself to check out the competition and maybe get a better deal, I know I just did and was very surprised at what I found for example, lets say you own a classic, vintage or imported car, did you know that there are insurance companies specializing in vintage and classic models .

Remember its better to be safe now than sorry afterwards.
